Zahav chef Michael Solomonov and restaurateur Steven Cook will … – Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

James Beard award-winning Philadelphia chef Michael Solomonov and restaurateur Steven Cook will be in Milwaukee on Nov. 28 to discuss their latest cookbook, “Israeli Soul: Easy, Essential, Delicious.”
The event will include book signings and appetizers made from recipes in the cookbook.
It will be at the Harry & Rose Samson Family Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd., Whitefish Bay. The event at the JCC starts at 7 p.m., and it’s presented in partnership with the Israel Center of the Milwaukee Jewish Federation and Boswell Books.
The prolific business partners first gained national attention for their modern Israeli restaurant, Zahav, which opened in Philadelphia in 2008. Since then, the men have opened Federal Donuts, the hummus restaurant Dizengoff, the American-Jewish small plates restaurant Abe Fisher, the Jewish deli and philanthropic force the Rooster, and the vegan falafel shop Goldie.
Solomonov won James Beard awards for best chef: Mid-Atlantic in 2011 and for outstanding chef, a national award, in 2017. Both awards were for his work at Zahav. Solomonov and Cook’s first book, “Zahav: A World of Israeli Cooking,” won Beard awards in the international cookbook category and for book of the year.
For “Israeli Soul,” named one of The New York Times’ 19 best cookbooks for fall, Solomonov and Cook visited Israeli market stalls, street carts, bakeries and restaurants, in major cities and small villages. The resulting recipes include sandwiches, salads, stews, a five-minute hummus and desserts.
Admission to the event is $40 a person or $60 a couple, which includes a copy of “Israeli Soul.” Tickets are available at or by calling (414) 967-8249.
