WHITE HALL, W.Va. (WV News) — The Traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall is set to visit White Hall next month, and city officials hope residents visit it to pay tribute to an important time in American history.
Two men honor the fallen at the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C. A mobile version of the wall will be coming to White Hall in August.
The wall, a replica of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, D.C., includes the names of about 58,000 American soldiers who lost their lives in the war nearly 60 years ago. White Hall Mayor John Michael said that once he heard of the traveling wall, he thought it would be a great benefit to the town to bring it here.

“I got a text yesterday from an unknown number that said, ‘Hey, I hear The Wall is coming. Thank you very much,’” Michael said. “You have [58,318] who lost their lives there over the course of the war. With that many losing their lives, how many come back totally traumatized?”
He said that having the wall come to White Hall will cost the town around $15,000 — going towards the wall itself, security for the memorial, grief counselors and more — but added that this is a small price to pay for such an event.
“We thought, ‘What better way to spend money than to honor our veterans of all wars?,” Michael said. “PTSD is real, and this wall helps in the healing process. We’re very community-oriented here.”
White Hall Town Coordinator Cindy Stover shared Michael’s sentiment, saying she hopes everyone comes and sees the memorial while it’s in town.
“There are a lot of personal feelings when you talk to different people,” Stover said. “Everyone has a story or knows someone who has been there. … You’d be surprised how many people have some deep feelings about this. … For a lot of people, this hits then to their cores. …
“It’s a piece of history that I think everyone should be aware of. We have a new generation now that may not know about this piece of history. It would be nice for parents to get their kids involved and bring them out.”
The Traveling Vietnam War Memorial Wall is free to the public and will be stationed at Trinity Assembly of God Church from Aug. 4 to Aug. 8.
