The 10 Best Movies For A Watch Party, According To Reddit – Screen Rant

Whether it’s in-person or streaming online, Redditors agree that these are the films sure to please everyone at a watch party.
There were tons of new Marvel Studios films announced at Comic-Con this year, and fans on Reddit are already voicing their disappointment surrounding the MCU panel. But while Marvel can’t please everyone all the time, most fans would agree that MCU movies are excellent choices for a watch party. Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) is just one great example, as viewers can now stream it with an Amazon Prime Video subscription.
Redditors have chimed in on their favorite movies for a watch party, too. From the bloody action of Tarantino movies like Pulp Fiction to the campy horror/laughter of What We Do In The Shadows, the best movies for a watch party are the ones that get everyone laughing, crying, and even screaming in unison.
One of the quintessential movies of the ’90s, From Dusk Till Dawn (1996) is frequently mentioned as a great movie for a watch party. George Clooney and Quentin Tarantino play fugitives on the run who are forced to take shelter in a desolate truck stop to avoid a herd of bloodthirsty vampires.

Redditors think From Dusk Till Dawn is the perfect choice for a watch party. Reddit user mediarch says, “No spoilers but it’s like two completely different movies wrapped into one. Scassd seconds that notion, adding the movie is “so much fun to watch with people who have no clue what it’s about.”
Jason Statham stars as Chev Chelios, a hitman who must keep his adrenaline up in Crank (2006)After being injected with a new synthetic drug, Chev realizes he has to keep moving or the low levels of adrenaline in his body will kill him. It’s a gimmicky premise but Crank is a high-octane thriller that keeps viewers cheering until the end.
Reddit user mediarch has nothing but praise for the movie: “Crank is like Speed but Jason Statham is the bus. It’s amazing.” Another watch party favorite is the sequel Crank: High Voltage (2009).  There’s no doubt these two films rank among Jason Statham’s best movies.
“Oldboy is a classic!” exclaims Redditor exhibit304. Many Reddit users agree the Park Chan-wook-directed crime thriller is one of the best Korean films of all time. The story follows Dae-Su, a drunk who is kidnapped and held captive for 15 years. Upon his release, Dae-Su has an opportunity to seek revenge against his captors.
Reddit user waynechirss says, “I love how uncompromising Korean filmmakers are when tackling taboo subject matters and violence.” Indeed, Oldboy contains enough gore to make Tarantino fans nauseous, making it a great choice for a watch party full of participants with strong stomachs.
Originally conjured as a Saturday Night Live skit starring Will Forte, MacGruber (2010) is one of the most ridiculous movies ever made. This campy action movie is based on the premise that MacGruber (Forte) is the world’s best bomb-diffusing hero, but he can’t focus long enough to actually do his job and everything just ends up exploding.

When asked what movies are fun to watch with a group of friends, Redditor OfficialValKilmer exclaims: “MacGruber is always the correct answer to this question.” Enhanced by the comic stylings of Kirsten Wiig and Ryan Phillipe, MacGruber doesn’t shy away from gross-out humor to generate laughs.
Whether or not Fast Five (2011) is one of the best heist films ever is up for debate, but it’s a ton of fun to watch with friends. The non-stop action combined with tongue-in-cheek one-liners delivered by the likes of Vin Diesel and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson makes it a blast to both enjoy and make fun of.
Reddit user Comic_Book_Reader suggests blending a Fast Five watch party with a few beverages. “If you wanna get rowdy, do the last 6 Fast & Furious movies, 5 and on, as 3 double features with alcohol,” they suggest. “Trust me, watching the gradually increasing insanity of those movies, and doing so drunk with friends, will undoubtedly be fun.”
The Roomcreated by and starring Tommy Wiseau, has slowly but surely become a cult classic. The story follows a banker living in San Francisco whose girlfriend suddenly becomes bored of him and goes after his best friend. Many critics site The Room as one of the worst movies ever made, but some fans believe it’s so bad it’s good.
The Disaster Artist (2017), a fictitious account of the making of The Room, recently brought newfound attention to the lost classic. “The midnight showing at our local arthouse theater is probably the hardest I’ve ever laughed at a movie,” says Redditor Sweet_Tangerine50. She adds: “11/10. Highly recommend this movie.”
Edge Of Tomorrow (2014) stars Tom Cruise as Major William Cage who’s thrown into the middle of an alien-human war without any actual battlefield experience. After getting killed in combat, Cage is thrust into a time loop and must relive the battle over and over again until he wins the fight.

“We had a blast watching Edge Of Tomorrow,” Redditor Klangteppich comments. “Great movie and even more fun seeing it with a group of people.” Reddit user ibrudiiv mostly agrees but says some people don’t like the conclusion, noting, “All my friends I’ve shown it to enjoyed it but hated the ending.”
Based on the popular video game series, Tomb Raider (2018) stars Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, the ass-kicking mercenary searching the world for answers to her father’s disappearance. The 2018 film was a remake of the original Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001) film adaptation that featured Angelina Jolie in the title role. While the 2018 update was released to mixed reviews, there’s no doubt Tomb Raider could have been better with dinosaurs.
Reddit users agree that both films are good for a watch party. Reddit user Alpha_Bit_Poop says: “I feel like movie night movies are best dumb, flashy and entertaining. The 2001 Tomb Raider is a nice dumb entertaining movie,” while Redditor willbo2013 calls the 2018 update a “solid popcorn movie.”
Prior to starring in Thor: Love And Thunder (2022) and a whole filmography of MCU movies, Chris Hemsworth starred in Cabin In The Woods (2013). A group of friends become stranded in an abandoned house in the woods where eerie things keep happening and there doesn’t seem to be any way out. It’s a horror movie that intentionally uses horror tropes to show the audience that it’s actually a parody of a horror movie.

“That’s a great group movie,” proclaims Redditor MagnaFarce. “I showed it to all of my friends without telling them what it was about and everyone was having a blast after they figured out that it was a parody of the typical horror movie.” The Cabin In The Woods launched the career of director Drew Godard, whose next project is rumored to be an adaptation of the graphic novel, Sabrina.
On the topic of unintentionally funny creepy movies, Clue (1985) is at the top of the list. Based on the popular board game, Clue is a murder mystery about six guests invited to a dinner party who all become suspects after the host is killed. Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, and Lesley Ann Warren star as the colorful characters from the board game.
Redditor ClaraWhoWastedAway calls the movie “so funny and such an awesome cast.” Reddit user OneManFreakShow calls Clue a “classic, quotable movie” and that watching it at the theatre is “still a highlight of my movie-going career.”
