Tempe looks for safe exchange zone for Craigslist, online … – The Business Journals

Want to buy or sell something on Craigslist?
The city of Tempe is looking to create an ‘Internet Sales Exchange Zone’ at the Tempe Police headquarters.
The idea is to create a safe zone for Craigslist and other online buyers and sellers to meet.
Tempe City Councilman Kolby Granville came up with the idea.
Concert and sports tickets, cars, artwork, jewelry and all kinds of other merchandises are bought and sold on Craigslist and other marketplace websites.
But there are instances where merchandise is fake or has been stolen and other times when Craigslist posters have used listing for nefarious ends.
Granville got the idea from Arizona State University, which also has its own ‘Internet Transaction Zone’ at ASU Police headquarters in Tempe.
Participants in that ASU zone need to be a student or employee.
The Tempe zone would be open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at the city police headquarters across from City Hall.
