The German research institute responsible for disease control and prevention, Robert Koch Institute (RKI), has published all the necessary information for citizens of the country who wish to obtain their COVID Vaccination Passport.
In a guide released by the Institute, it was revealed that those who have been fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 can have their certificate obtained at a pharmacy, provided that they present proof of vaccination and their identification card.
The Institute noted that federal states carry out the implementation of the COVID Vaccination Passport issuance. In case a person has been fully vaccinated in a doctor’s office, the doctor is authorised to issue a vaccination certificate.
The vaccination certificates are being issued as a QR code by the vaccination centres, doctors, and pharmacies. Each vaccination has its own unique QR code, SchengenVisaInfo.com reports.
For persons who have already been vaccinated against COVID-19 in federal states’ vaccination centres, the code is sent to them via mail or made available via online portals.
In order for the vaccination passport to be available in digital format, everyone is required to download the CovPass app to their smartphone.
CovPass is an app designed on behalf of the Federal Ministry of Health, which saves the information regarding the vaccination status in the working memory of the smartphone. In just a few seconds, the app shows whether a person has been effectively protected by the virus, and it doesn’t disclose any other information except for the holder’s vaccination status, name, surname, and date of birth.
It is planned that in the future, the app can also be used to check evidence of recovery from the Coronavirus and evidence of a negative test result.
It was highlighted that the use of CovPass is only used as a supplement to the yellow vaccination certificate. Thus, everyone can prove their vaccination status by showing a printed format of the vaccination certificate or the yellow vaccination certificate.
“The use of the app is completely voluntary. The aim of the CovPass app is to provide evidence of corona vaccinations quickly and safely. You can delete the app at any time. This also removes all information stored by the app from your smartphone. Alternatively, you can also prove your Corona vaccination protection with the printed vaccination certificate or the familiar yellow vaccination pass,” Robert Koch Institute’s statement reads.
The European Union has introduced the EU COVID-19 Vaccination Passport in a bid to restore the freedom of travel within the block. The implementation of such a document aims to abolish the travel restrictions such as entry bans, quarantine, and testing requirements.
Previously, the German health authorities stated that the country has issued more than five million vaccination passports after the same successfully joined the EU gateway for the issuance of the document.
