A percentage is a quantity or ratio that is stated as a fraction of a hundred. The percentage has no dimensions. This is basically a ratio or fraction in which the total is represented by the number 100. The percentage can be calculated by dividing the given value by the actual number and multiplying by 100. This is an important topic that should be taught to students.
Learning to calculate percentages will help students with understanding how percentage calculation works for them in studying for upcoming tests.
The word ‘Percentage’ came from per cent. If you split this word, you will get Per and Cent is an old European word with French, Latin, and Italian origins meaning ‘ hundred’.
Basically, per cent means per hundred.
Formula application is highly important to learn how to calculate the percentage of marks. This formula, like most of the others, does not require pen and paper.
To calculate how to compute a student’s percentage of marks in an exam, a student’s total marks should be divided by the maximum marks, and then multiplied by 100.
For instance, if a student receives 95 out of 100 in English, 85 out of 100 in Hindi, 75 out of 100 in history.
The student’s total marks will be added. Like (95+85+75), which equals 255. And (100+100+100) = 300.
And as a result of which, the student’s percentage of marks obtained equals (255/300) x 100% = 85%
This formula will help in assisting you in determining the percentage of marks secured.
