The insane free stuff you’ll only find in San Francisco Craigslist listings.
The free section of Craigslist is a jumble of objects in limbo – items that owners refuse to toss, but wouldn’t bother selling.
What inspires someone to list an object for free on Craigslist, rather than throw it away? Hauling a sagging mattress or a heavy table to the dump can be costly; it’s often easier to let a stranger take hefty objects off your hands.
It’s the smaller, easy-to-toss items that raise eyebrows. Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle once wrote, “In every object there is inexhaustible meaning.” The same could likely be said for the free Craigslist listings, the underlying sentiment of which is that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure.
Story continues below.
While you may have moved on from your wakeboarding aspirations, another might find use for two dozen Boarding magazines. The same goes for that Muppets piggy bank and the autopsy bed from the Samuel L. Jackson film “Sphere.”
Check out the above gallery to see some of the other wacky items we found for free on Craigslist over the past month.
Like the aforementioned autopsy bed, many of the listed items contain stories. A furry vest, fuzzy shorts and red top hat are the last remains of a week at Burning Man. In the listing, the owner writes, “Probably not going again. So it’s yours.”
